Tuesday 25th was our final day of shooting in Jersey and the Channel Islands. As we all prepared ourselves for shooting some were feeling a little downcast as we were entering our last shoots of the tour.

The sky was a little overcast and we believed we might be in for a chilly day, however we needn’t have worried as the skies cleared as our first firers got prepared and we were treated to some lovely warm weather with a fairly consistent wind.

The morning shoot was at 300 and 600 yards for the Gallichan trophy and proved to be very comfortable for most, despite someone having an 8 minute wind zero issue from the day before. After the final detail at 300 there was a rush to get kit crammed into the wagon and taken back to 600 yards. However, something seemed amiss…….. “where was Niall (again)” at which point eyes turned to the 300 yard point to see him slowly trudging back with masses of kit.

600 yards proved to be a little more difficult with a fishtailing wind which resulted in points being dropped. Robin Hallows top scored in the NRA squad with 99.14 and placing 9th overall, followed closely by Niall Duncan with 99.12

After a brief lunch period we quickly got ourselves back over to 300 yards to get on with the team match. The team comprised: Awin, Creane, Glanville, Hallows, Leech, Duncan, Southall, and Heatley. The Reserves: Pope and Brown.

300 yards provided some good shooting but only producing two ‘possibles’ from Robin Hallows and Adam Leech, but we were only 2 points adrift of the opposition. 500 yards saw us a further 3 points behind which meant a strong showing was needed at the final 600 yards.

Unfortunately for the NRA team it was not to be and we lost by 11 points to a strong Jersey team. Our reserves too were beaten by 5 points in their match.

JRA 1182.145 (reserves 294.34)

NRA 1171.136 (reserves 289.29)

Top scorer for the NRA was Robin Hallows with a very good 149.25

(The Army Target Rifle Team and The Barbarians also fielded teams in a concurrent match, the results of which can be seen on the Results Download page)
