Day 1 in Jersey started with seven (fool?) hardy shooters braving the 5am alarm clock for a spot of long-range shooting at Les Landes range. To put a positive spin on the morning, nobody dropped a single point at either 900 or 1000 yards, tho
ugh sadly this was due to not scoring any either! The vagaries of island weather meant that the entire range was covering in a thick blanket of sea fog, keeping visibility below a thousand inches, let lone yards. A warming sun failed to burn this away in time and for the first time ever, the absence of a stiff wind (and its clearing effects) at long range was disappointing. A now slightly tired and very hungry seven made their way back to the hotel just in time to see the air clear and the sun shine through. Typical…!
Afternoon was a vast improvement in terms of both weather and shooting. The warm sun shone throughout and the absence of any established 200 yard elevations for the team didn’t deter, with strong scores and high V counts ensuing. Falling back to 500 yards, the standard of shooting was maintained with some notable total scores, not least Robin’s 99.10 (the 2nd highest NRA score) with a total mechanical failure of his trigger and Adam taking the Percy Whitaker Trophy with 100.17.
A happy, hungry (and in 7 cases, exhausted!) team saw the end of the day out with another delicious meal and wonderful coastal views, followed by an early night pending “The Big One” against Jersey the following day…
